[ poe is on a mission to canto bight with finn and trying very hard to keep his cool. it was difficult enough existing in the same space as a bunch of fancy rich people in clothes that were dug out of a lost and found or coat closet somewhere that didn’t fit quite right. it matched the rest of him that didn’t fit quite right. high society was for people who were distinctly not him.
however, sometimes the easiest way to maintain confidence is having to be confident for someone else, and poe has that opportunity before him now that he and finn are on this date intel-gathering mission together.
he knew that finn was an omega, could smell it on him, but always tried to keep just enough distance that it wouldn’t become a thing. it was actually incredibly hard, but he had his own suppressants and hopes and prayers. he also had other things to worry about, and finn seemed to garner enough attention from rose. the cynical greedy gremlin in him was like “you know beta relationships with alphas or omegas never last that long,” but the other 99% of him wanted!! to be!! a good person!! happy for finn and rose and whatever… that was. gulp down those suppressants, don’t worry about it.
what he didn’t expect on canto bight, in a crowd with so many people who didn’t have a career obligation or simply didn’t want to be on suppressants, just how high his hackles would raise. practically sticking to finn like playing some game of footsie only with his whole body.
